Wonderful book

I got this book yesterday from Oxfam. Initially drawn to it by its beautiful cover it turned out the be as lovely on the inside as well, and, these knitting projects seem quite straight forward with 'simple' instructions and illustrated pictures. So, now I'm off downtown to get some knitting needles. I'll attempt to make the close fitting hat. Following patterns isn't really my kind of thing, with my crocheting I just make things up, but maybe, now, I'll try and be patient and follow it through. Wish me good luck. So far I've only ever knitted a pair of legwarmers and a snood-hood.

If you are interested in knowing more about the patterns, let me know and I'll scan some. x
The book was published in 1939.

The finds

from today's charity shopping.
A navy blue shirt with white dots, a red hat with netting and feathers, a red/white handbag and a teardrop shaped box with vintage flowers - to use for my hats! I also got two smokey colored lampshades made of glass, but they are still in the car so no piccies. All for a total of £4.25!

And, following on the theme of the day, SWAP PARTY, I came across a new SWAP SHOP in Gillingham. These people get to use this empty shop for a couple of months to raise awareness of sustainability and re-useage/re-cycling. They got a corner with clothes and other little bits and pieces. I didn't have anything to swap but they weren't very strict on it, so I was welcome to grab what I liked. I found this little Matryoschka family to come home with me. I also saw a cool pair of pilot glasses but didn't want to seem too greedy... Next time I'll bring some stuff in. I love the inititative!! I'm all for RE-CYCLY, RE-USE AND RE-PRODUCE!
And, they also did some card making workshops in there - for free. And offered tea and coffee.

Ok, gotta go check on that cake now.

ps. that smallest of dolls is only 1 cm high. tiny. tiny. x

It's saturday

and my plan for the day is: Finish my coffee, get dressed, go charity shopping, do some washing up, bake a cake, (nope didn't do it yesterday), sort my studio and prepare it for the clothes swap, buy some wine, sort out a playlist, make soup for dinner, meet the ladies at 7 in my studio. Go home with possibly some new clothes and then, sleep the sleep.

Did I tell you I got a 1940's coat last weekend? I'll show you, I promise. It is green and got beautiful sleeves.

Have a great weekend.

Feeling ill

Tomorrow I'm baking a cake for saturday's clothes and stuff swap in my studio. But now, I will rest. I'm making a cup of fennel tea and taking my laptop to bed to watch movies.
So long.

Patterns

I bought this dress and cardigan the other day. I like their patterns. Close up the pattern on the dress looks like little paw prints. Bear or lynx perhaps..

(my camera is left in my studio, so mobile pics will have to do, sorry for the poor quality)

Have a fab weekend. I'm attending charity shops and a house warming party tomorrow. x

Hello October - Come rain come shine

Come rainy days. Let me stand under one of these and listen to the rain. Come dark evenings with candle lit rooms and big cups of tea. Come chilly days with crisp air, knitted scarfs and piles of leaves. Come wind, come show us what you got - I'll be waiting for you by the sea.
